Leading Website Announces Annual Book Awards

BookBrowse.com, one of the top independent book information sites on the internet, announced today the results of its popular Annual Awards for the top books of 2005.

The winners are:

The BookBrowse Diamond Award for Most Popular Book:

Closers by Michael Connelly

The BookBrowse Sapphire Award for Most Popular Debut:

Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall

The BookBrowse Ruby Award for Most Popular Category:

Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion

Davina Morgan-Witts, CEO and founder of BookBrowse.com, said, "I am proud to announce these awards, and pass on our congratulations to the authors".

Morgan-Witts continued: "The awards are unique in the industry, firstly, because of the high numbers of votes cast; and secondly because the scoring process is designed to recognize books on the basis of quality, not simply popularity."

Over 5,500 votes were cast for these awards. To ensure a truly independent process, only registered BookBrowse subscribers were able to vote; and a five point rating scale ensured that the awards were given to the books deemed to be of the highest quality, not simply the ones that had been most widely read.

This powerful book is Didion's attempt to make sense of the weeks and months during the critical illness of her daughter and the sudden and unexpected death of her husband "that cut loose any fixed idea I ever had about death, about illness . . . about marriage and children and memory . . . about the shallowness of sanity, about life itself."
