Written for self esteem development, there is a new series of small booklets for children ages 4 to 9. These booklets are just right for group readings such as in class. The book title is "Little Larry of Lewiston Meets Bobby the Backyard Bully," written by Lawrence Pelow.
Any teacher, parent, nurse and care taker of young children may want to investigate these short booklets about a young 7 year old boy who is a bit shy and short for his age.The story is uplifting and simple to read to a young group of listeners for age 4 to 8. The theme in this sereis is about a boy who learns to neutralize the influence of a bully without doing damage to the bully. As the series continue the reader or listener has the opportunity to imagine and share the success of the protagonist as he adapts to the loss of a leg due to cancer. As the main character recovers he utilizes the help of his parents and the technology of a new "high tech" leg to overcome any sense of low self esteem that temporarily haunts him.
The booklets are short enough to keep the attention of the younger reader or listener.
The author wrote the story in a series of short booklets. The best way to present the story to children is read the series in a group reading. The theme of a child adapting at school and in the face of a major illness with a subsequent disability,if presented with sensitivity can be very uplifting.
The author works in a hospital as a Clinical Technologist. After observing children in clinical situations the author wrote these series of installments with the intention if motivating parents to read their sick child. The content of the story will offer a positive role model for a child who is facing illness and hardship.
Later editions of the series will have more artful illustrations.
