First Class Nursing Students

They dot the Phoenix metro area from Avondale to Gilbert, they range in age from 22 to 46 and the backgrounds of these 30 men and women vary as well, but as diverse as they may seem they share one thing in common: they comprise the first class of nursing school students at Pima Medical Institute, 957 S. Dobson Road in Mesa.

Orientation is scheduled Aug. 16th and the first class begins Aug. 22nd.

More than 400 prospective students went through the screening process. Unlike the lottery system used in most nursing schools, PMI's nursing school candidate's criteria were based on a merit-based system that utilized high school and college grades in math and science and overall GPA; healthcare certification and licensures; healthcare work experience; healthcare volunteer service; entrance math and English scores; writing, personality, and interview scores; and a national nursing entrance exam score.
