About "Shoes That Fit" Program
At "Shoes That Fit" the program provide new shoes and/or clothes to children in need so that they can attend school in confort and with dignity. They do this by matching a sponsoring group-a buisness, school, church, civic organization or even a group of friends-with schools near them that have children in need.
The sponsor determines how many children they can help and the school identifies and measures students with materials the program provide. The sponsor purchases the exact items those children require and delivers the items to the school. Every penny spent goes directly to to child. To date the organization have provided over 300,000 new pairs of shoes and clohting items that was delivered directly to schoolchildren in need.
About Katwalk Boutique's Involvement
Toni James, a graduate of Johns Hopkins Universtity's Masters in Special Education Program, is too familiar with kids in the inner city, who come to school not properly dressed. When Toni and her husband Justin, both educators opened the Katwalk Boutique in Mt. Vernon-Baltimore 8 years ago, they constantly struggled with varies ways to assist students in need on a larger scale.
They heard about the generousity of the "Shoes That Fit" program and instantly linked to their cause by providing shoes and uniforms for students at Tench Tilgman Public Elementary School in East Baltimore. They have expanded their effors by donating a space within the Katwalk Boutique as a shoe, uniform, and clothing Resource Center for kids in need. To kick off their efforts, with the help of Saran Fossett, Labels LLC, many business owners, members of the press, teachers, and concerened citizens will gather this Sunday for a night of fun, fashion, and giving.
To get involved please contact Toni James at 410-669-0600 or drop off any new children's uniforms and shoes, Tuesday-Saturday-11am-7pm at 243 W. Read Street, Baltimre, MD 21201.
