The New-York Times reported on January 6, 2006 that IBM has decided to freeze its Pension Plans once and for all. More large companies are expected to follow suit, sounding the final death-knell for defined-benefit pension plans in US.
While the trend is not new, the burden of building a portfolio well north of $1 million weighs heavily on the average young worker today.
“Workers in their 20s and 30s face some stiff headwinds in the stock and bond markets in attempting to build their nest eggs”, says Shri V. Srikanth, founder of Character & Wealth. “The markets have been flat, real interest rates continue to be low, and then there is the imminent baby boom retirement wave”.... (Continue reading)

A "dish re-mount project" that took place during the fall of 2006 in Minneapolis, MN triggered the start of something big for many of the management companies that were simply fed-up in dealing with damaging installations. The pilot project was done in Heritage Square, a town home development built by K. Hovnanian Homes and managed by a company called Community Development. The project went well, so well that Community Development along with several other large management companies are now mandating the use of Commdeck on all of their managed properties.... Rising gas, mortgage and home energy costs are putting a damper on holiday cheer this year, but one company is taking a creative spin on putting the holly jolly back into Christmas. Gold owners who would like to learn more about how they can receive immediate payment for their precious metal jewelry can do so online at http://www.GoldPaq.com.... (Continue reading)
Kelly Bliss leads an exercise class to stay healthy. She's been a large woman most of her life. But she's not worried about it. In fact, she's proud of it.
"I feel good about myself as a human being. I just happen to be plus size -- it's not my identity," says Bliss.
Like Kelly, half of all American women are now a size 14 or larger. And as larger becomes the norm for men and women, companies are beginning to take notice. They're designing things like stools that hold up to 500 pounds, super-sized bicycles and heavy duty hangers. Even Lane Bryant is adding outlet stores for the large and budget-minded. Consumer experts say that big people are big business.
Sharron Lennon, PhD, a consumer sciences researcher at The Ohio State University says, "What retailers are realizing and manufacturers, is that there are a lot of people out there that would be purchasing those kinds of products if they were available for them."
And now that they are available, giving consumers what they want is the name of the game. The publisher of Ladies Home Journal, Meredith Corporation, is now publishing Figure Magazine, the only magazine for plus size women in America.
"Most women in America are plus size. And they want a magazine that shows fashion that they can wear. Not on a size two model. Not things that they can't afford, but things that are attainable, yet beautiful," says Figure Magazine's Amy Vogt.
Figure Magazine is even organizing a cruise for plus size women where the theme is celebrating your size. In fact, there are so many new services and products for bigger people that Bliss started the Plus Size Yellow Pages.com to list them all in one place. Because large size people want the same opportunities and products as everyone else.
For more information about plus size products and fashions go to FigureMagazine.com.... (Continue reading)

Office workers with noisy neighbors will benefit from a new PC program, ChatterBlocker, that uses digital audio technology to mask the sound of unwanted speech so users can stay focused.

ConnectMyCable.com, an interactive online service that helps consumers connect their television service, informs consumers about the upcoming nationwide mandatory switch from a 5a8 nalog to digital television.
The FCC has stated that as of February 17, 2009 all over-the-air-broadcasting must convert to an all-digital format.
The new digital or DTV format will give consumers:
Digital picture quality free of ghosts and snow that usually plagues analog signals
Multiple programming through multi-channel streams
The analog channels will be used for public safety such as police, fire and emergency rescue and advanced wireless services. Consumers who currently subscribe to satellite or cable service will most likely not be affected by the switch. Those who will lose their television signal are those who rely on analog over-the-air stations; however, consumers don't have to rush out and buy HDTVs if they don't want to. Converter boxes are available to change the analog signal 5a8 into digital.... (Continue reading)
