SkinSpirit - Goes Green - Saving Skin and the Planet, One Step at a Time
SkinSpirit -- Voted "Best Of" in Palo Alto, educates and offers protection and correction for your skin and now, for the planet too. SkinSpirit, is partnering with Acterra.org, www.acterra.org, a Peninsula based "action for a substantial earth" organization, which creates local solutions to environmental issues, with thier SKINSPIRIT GOES GREEN KICK OFF CELEBRATION, being held, Thursday, August 21, 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Palo Alto location. A trained environmental coach from Acterra.org will educate guests on how to reduce waste, home chemicals, energy, and water and auto fuel consumption - while having fun, building community, and saving money! To join, participate or just get free information, email info@skinspirit.com.
"I consider myself an intelligent, thoughtful consumer but have often questioned my ability to really make an impact on the environment," said Spa Director, Stacey Yates. "Outside of changing my light-bulbs or buying a Prius, I am not quite sure what to do daily and how it really makes a difference. I figured I wasn't alone, which is why we are partnering with Accterra to offer simple steps-one at a time- that we can all easily do to make a difference."
"THE FIRST STEP - RE-USE! Recycling rates for plastic bags are extremely low. Only 1 to 3% of plastic bags recycled actually end up getting recycled. In addition, economics of recycling plastic bags are not appealing. Even if recycling rates of plastic bags increase dramatically, it doesn't solve other significant problems, such as the use of non-renewable resources and toxic chemicals in their original production, or the billions of bags that wind up in our environment each year that eventually breakdown into tiny toxic bits." So what do we do? We choose to re-use.
HOW WE CAN HELP - A growing number of stores offer re-usable bags and now SkinSpirit is offering a smaller, more compact one, small enough to carry in your handbag or even your pocket! "Don't forget me!©", cleverly imprinted on the bag, reminds you not to forget the bag when shopping, yourself, or the planet. You can purchase the re-usable bags at SkinSpirit, or get it as a gift with purchase (of $300 or more in products.)
ADDED INCENTIVE - Re-use your "Don't forget me!©" bag at SkinSpirit and they will plant a tree on your behalf! Really! For every bag re-used, $1.00 will be donated to The Nature Conservancy's "Plant a Billion Trees" campaign. For more information about Nature Conservancy and their tree planting campaign, visit www.plantabillion.org.
