The Campaign Season Never Ends for a New Hampshire Animal Shelter

Last April, it looked like the end of the line for the Conway Area Humane Society, a small resort community in northern New Hampshire. The shelter was down to its last $88 dollars, and the staff was beginning to plan how to place the animals under its roof. A year earlier, the organization's founding executive director left the agency, taking with her the shelter's largest donors; the donors were angered by the secrecy surrounding the director's departure, the reasons for which were never disclosed to the public.
