Springfield School District Takes 14 Firsts at Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Meet

In a powerful demonstration of scientific research, 18 Springfield students competed in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Meet, which was held May 17-19 at Penn State University. To reach the finals, all 18 students had to place first in the regional competition. Then, among a field of 2,200 students from across the Commonwealth, 14 of the 18 Springfield students received Firsts in the finals.

Sophomore Nicole Melso won in the Astronomy category and received a $1,000 cash prize for the top Earth and Space presentation, A Study of Quiescent Flicker Behavior in a Dwarf Nova.
