Branding via Social Media for the Interactive Artist and Small Agency - Wednesday, September 19, 2007 10:45 AM-12:00 PM
Social media is a powerful and cost-effective branding tool for the interactive artist. Unfortunately, most creatives and interactive shops that are interested in creating and/or building their brand online have little or no direction when it comes to effectively using social media sites and social networking for branding. They see bloggers with hundreds of subscribers, massive amounts of authority on Technorati, and some who have even made news headlines in traditional broadcast and print outlets.
In this session, Social Media Evangelist Giovanni Gallucci will discuss best practices from a decade-long career consulting with more experienced bloggers, podcasters, community builders, and social networkers to help the small business and independent interactive artist utilize social networks and social media outlets to establish a brand online and build an audience of potential clients.
Flash and Search Engine Optimization - Friday, September 21, 2007 3:00 PM-4:15 PM
Flash gets an undeserved bad rap for harming search engine visibility. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practitioners have always been concerned about Flash, and how they can SEO Flash content. The lazy ones have long since given up and continue to spread the common misconception to clients that Flash is simply a show-stopper when it comes to search engine marketing. In this session, Gallucci will prove that myth wrong.
While search engines can't read embedded content in SWF's, this doesn't mean that building Flash sites is SEO suicide. In this session, Gallucci will show attendees how to combine creative programming and design techniques to be able to build SEO-friendly sites with Flash, CSS, and HTML. These sites will be highly interactive websites that can not only be read by search engine bots, but can rank highly, convert well, and ring the register.

These days, when you see a picture of Cindy Crawford or Madonna, they're probably sipping water from a SIGG bottle. "Carrying a SIGG bottle has become a green badge of honor but, sadly, it may not be that green," said Debby de Moulpied, founder and owner of Real Green Goods, a NH-based green department store.
According to de Moulpied, SIGG bottles have several secrets that don't support their environmentally friendly image:

1. SIGG bottles are made out of virgin aluminum. "Aluminum is the best recyclable material, so using virgin material is nonsensical and anti-eco," said de Moulpied.... (Continue reading)
The Energy Hedge Fund Center, LLC (EHFC) has announced a major new multi-client study into global energy markets. The study will review all energy and environmental commodity financial markets with the ultimate objective of definitively classifying and sizing those markets. It will examine structural change in the markets, new trading instruments and exchanges, as well as examining global markets for crude oil, refined products, natural gas, electric power, emissions, and other commodities.
“Global energy trading is rapidly recovering from any impacts it sustained as a result of the collapse of the North American Energy Merchants that impacted natural gas and electric power markets considerably,” said Mr. Peter C. Fusaro, Co-Principal, EHFC. “Additionally, new exchange-based clearing mechanisms, instruments and intra-commodity relationships have emerged that have reduced barriers to entry, increased market liquidity and impacted risks. With the recent entry and reemergence of investment banks, hedge funds and multinational oil companies as investors in energy commodities, these markets have dramatically changed over the last 4-5 years. Indeed, we would argue that there has been a structural change in energy markets.”... (Continue reading)
