Friends of Wadsworth Library Features Genesee Valley Writer at Annual Meeting

Friends of Wadsworth Library will feature Genesee Valley writer Aaron Paul Lazar at the organizations annual meeting, to be held on Tues., Sept. 27, 7 p.m. at Wadsworth Library, 24 Center St., Geneseo.

Author of the LeGarde Mystery Series and a Groveland resident, Lazar, 52, will read from Upstaged and answer questions from the audience. Lazars mysteries are set in the Genesee Valley and follow the LeGarde family as they cope with a murder, loss, grief, recovery, and newfound love. Lazar lives with his wife, three daughters, and two grandsons and gathers inspiration for his writing from his family, both past and present, and his passion for music, art, gardening, gourmet cooking, and photography. He has written eight LeGarde mysteries, of which two, Double Forte and Upstaged, have already been published. Both novels will be available for sale and signing at the meeting.... (Continue reading)

When you're serving life in prison without parole for your part in a murder, writing a novel filled with graphic violence may seem to be against your self-interest. But Erik Jensen, author of the fantasy adventure novel "Orphan Mage," (Chicago Spectrum Press, ISBN 1-58374-124-0, $19.95) says readers and reviewers who are offended by the violence are confusing reality and fantasy.

"There is a lot of violence (in the book)," the 25-year-old Jensen admits, "but I think part of that is the genre, and part of it is the ease with which my generation deals with violence, whether it be video games, movies, or books. New Bedford Leads the Way in Dog Bite Prevention Education

- This summer, children in four New Bedford schools participated in an innovative dog bite prevention education program. MANNERS for LIFE dog trainer Ruth Smiler visited Carney Academy, Holy Family-Holy Name, DeValles, and Hathaway Schools to teach the children how to read dog body language in order to know whether a dog is friendly and safe to approach. Schools throughout the country will focus on drug education and prevention during Red Ribbon Week October 23-31.

Red Ribbon Week is considered national drug education and prevention week and has been celebrated since 1986 when a Drug Enforcement Agent was kidnapped and killed for coming close to breaking up a drug cartel in Mexico.
