Woodcarvers and Santa Enthusiasts Invited to Vote

The woodcarving community, readers and the general public are invited to vote for their favorite rendering of St. Nicholas in Woodcarving Illustrated's first annual Santa Carving Contest. This year, a People's Choice Award will be presented to the carver who receives the most votes at the magazine's online companion: www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/santacontest. There visitors can view the finalists, and cast a ballot for their favorite Santa submission. The deadline to submit a vote is October 14.

In addition to the People's Choice Award, a Grand Prize and three Honorable Mentions will be selected from nearly 200 entries by the editors at Woodcarving Illustrated, and judged on overall presentation, technical execution and originality. Winners in all three categories will receive prizes valued at nearly $3,000.00, and include gift certificates, tool sets, power sharpeners, carving sets, books and much more. All winners will be announced and featured in the Holiday issue of Woodcarving Illustrated, available on newsstands November 20th.

In conjunction with the First Annual Santa Carving Contest, Fox Chapel Publishing released its new Woodcarving Illustrated Book, Santa Showcase, which features a unique collection of wood carvings characterizing St. Nicholas as he is depicted around the world. Hand-picked from a decade of Woodcarving Illustrated articles in honor of their 10th anniversary, the projects in this charming book represent the craftsmanship of renowned carving artists. The book features projects, patterns, a photo gallery, a history of St. Nicholas, and an article reprinted for the first time - the "cover" Santa from David Sabol for the sold-out premiere issue of Woodcarving Illustrated - now out-of-print and a valuable collector's item.

Woodcarving Illustrated, published by Fox Chapel Publishing in East Petersburg, PA, is the leading how-to magazine for woodcarvers, providing step-by-step projects, patterns, and expert tips and techniques to over 50,000 readers.
