It is shocking that over 30% of new teachers do not teach a fifth year. Why do they quit? The biggest reasons are classroom management, paperwork and time commitment. Now we have to deal with the fact that over 50% of our experienced teachers will be leaving as baby boomers reach retirement age. Something HAS to change in the area of classroom management, so we can keep our teachers in the classroom.
Presenter, educator and author, Sandy LaBelle, is nationally recognized for her innovative reforms in classroom management. “By approaching the classroom in a more business-like manner, run by a classroom manager (Sandy’s word for teacher), classroom workers (Sandy’s word for students) are prepared for the future work world - and they really like it,” says LaBelle. To develop these revolutionary classroom management techniques, Sandy LaBelle took classes from the business world and modified the management ideas to fit classrooms. Then she continually adjusted these management approaches until she had the classroom purring like a happy kitten. By using LaBelle’s techniques, students are cooperatively on task within one minute of the class-start bell; they take more responsibility for their learning, produce higher quality work and feel more empowered. There are more smiles in the classroom. Behavior problems are virtually eliminated. Logically, as a result, teacher stress and fatigue is reduced dramatically.
These are just a few of the comments Sandy received after teachers read her books and implemented the specific and easy-to-use ideas when the door closed and they were alone with 30+ teenagers. You can find the entire testimonial, and others, on the web site at www.teachingsmarter.net.... (Continue reading)
