J. August Richards Makes his Directorial Debut with Suspense Thriller Privacy Policy ... Exploring the Possibility of Invasion of Liberties, Post 9/11

J. August Richards captures audiences with a clever, contemporary approach to suspense in the thriller, Privacy Policy. He will present the nineteen-minute short film on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF) - the largest African American film festival in the country.

Policy Synopsis: John Doe is receiving strange phone calls -- always in the middle of the night, always around the same time. What's even stranger is that the caller's telephone number reads "private" on the caller-ID, despite John's recent purchase of "Private Call Block." He enlists the help of his friend Detective Barry; an undercover cop who discovers that the mysterious caller's phone number belongs to no one. Ultimately, the consistent call time - 12:47 a.m. - will show John that in the technological age, nothing is private. Is John a victim of identity theft? Paranoia? Techno-stalking? Or is he the victim of a plot more sinister than he could possibly imagine?

"The films that inspired me to direct this project were Sixth Sense, Fight Club, and the French film Caché," Richards says. "Caché inspired me the most. It's like Caché meets the Sixth Sense meets Fight Club."

Writer and director, J. August Richards, a graduate from the University of Southern California, is most noted for on his camera performances. He has worked steadily in film, television, and theater, accumulating over ten years of experience as a professional actor.

Richards' acting credits include Dick Wolf's NBC drama Conviction, the WB's international hit Angel, the Warner Brothers film Why Do Fools Fall in Love, and The Temptations, where he portrays one of the original members of the 60's singing group. He has guest starred on countless television series including The 4400, The Practice, The Cosby Show and Any Day Now, and has won critical praise for his stage performances in prestigious theaters around the country.

Audiences know Sharif Atkins, who plays John Doe, as Dr. Michael Gallant on the NBC mega-hit ER. Atkins has also starred in the NBC series Hawaii, UPN's Eve, and the films Light It Up and Out of Exile. He is a graduate of Northwestern University.

Detective Barry is portrayed by Anson Mount, who has starred in many television series including NBC's Conviction, WB's The Mountain and ABC's Line of Fire with guest appearances on Sex in the City, Lost, and Smallville. Mount's film credits include All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, In Her Shoes, City by the Sea, Crossroads, and Boiler Room.

Privacy Policy was filmed in Los Angeles, CA in September 2006. Shot in HiDef, it has a running time of 19 minutes 57 seconds. The film was produced by actor La Monde Byrd (Supernatural, Mind of Mencia, The Shield and Strong Medicine).

Richards also appears in the film, Paved With Good Intentions, screening at the PAFF on Feb. 16, and Feb. 18. The screenings will be held at the AMC Magic Johnson Theatres in Los Angeles. For more information on dates and times visit www.paff.org.... (Continue reading)

Americas Watchdog, is an advocacy group focused on corporate responsibility & fair play. According to M.Thomas Martin the founder of Americas Watchdog," our nations homebuilders now face what could become the largest tax fraud cases and or Fair Labor Standards Act lawsuits in U.S. History".

According to Martin, national, regional and local homebuilders very frequently use "subcontractors", who are little more than labor brokers. These "subcontractors"/ middlemen often classify workers (undocumented workers) as "1099 sub-contractors" as a way to shield the homebuilder from state or federal tax liability, or allow the homebuilder to avoid over-time pay to employees. According to Martin; "these were not citizens, they had no real social security numbers, and more often than not, they were supervised by the actual homebuilder or their representatives".... Eduventures Launches Learning Collaborative Program for Development Officers: Pressure on Development Offices Drives Need for Comprehensive Research and Guidance

Amid the pressure of higher and higher fund-raising goals, development leaders at colleges and universities are seeking ways to scale their operations and recruit and retain top talent while keeping their donors and alumni engaged. Answering that call, Eduventures, LLC, the leading research and consulting firm serving the education market, announced today the launch of its Learning Collaborative Program for Development to meet the challenges facing college and university development offices.

“Private fund raising by colleges and universities in the U.S. is surging with schools doubling or tripling their fund-raising goals in the span of a couple of years,” says Brent Keltner, Eduventures’ managing vice president of the Learning Collaborative Program for Development. “As universities scale up their development operations, credible, reliable, and timely data around operational, infrastructure, and human resource investments has become a critical tool to good decision-making. The Development program provides access to both independent research and analysis and a peer network of institutions facing similar challenges.”

The launch of the Learning Collaborative Program for Development – already attracting a significant membership base including such national leaders as Harvard, Princeton, Wisconsin, and Minnesota – comes at a time when development offices at both private and public institutions are being called upon to provide ever-larger shares of operating budgets and to help fuel endowment growth on a scale that traditional models may not effectively support. The Development program is a member-based research program designed to help member institutions address these critical strategic and operational challenges. The shared-cost nature of the program allows universities to jointly underwrite investigations into common challenges in a cost-efficient manner, while affording the members the opportunity for structured comparison, information-sharing, and benchmarking with other leading universities.... Report Shows Undiscovered Errors on 80 Percent of Phone Bills

A report by the Gartner Group shows that 80 percent of phone bills from businesses have errors that are never found or reported.

Most public, private, and non-profit organizations show the cost of telecommunications as one of their five highest business expenses, right behind salaries and benefits. Phone bills tend to be confusing and lengthy, making it difficult for most companies to determine if there are errors -- so most do not even try to figure it out.

Most companies keep close tabs on labor costs, but few take the time to scrutinize their communications expenses the way they analyze their labor costs," explained Frank Stoczko of Team NCTY. Most business managers look at a phone bill, shrug their shoulders, and authorize the bill to be paid without another thought. They just assume it must be right. Unfortunately it is wrong most of the time and they are paying too much every month."... (Continue reading)
