WorldatWork Leads Congressional Briefing on Work and Family Issues

Inspired by recent events from the Presidential campaign trail, the focus on work and family issues and work-life balance has never been stronger. Many of these issues were front and center this morning at a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill led by WorldatWork, a global human resources association. The briefing was held in support of the resolution calling for the designation of October as “National Work and Family Month.” The House Resolution is sponsored by Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Congressman Todd Platts (R-PA).

“Five years ago, we were successful in securing the passage of Senate Resolution 210 which declared October 2003 as National Work and Family Month,” said Kathie Lingle, executive director of Alliance for Work-Life Progress at WorldatWork. “Since that time, we have used this annual opportunity to encourage employers everywhere to take stock of how far they have come on their journey towards work-life progress and raise the bar next year.”

“Today, employers, human resource professionals and everyone who works understand the importance of supporting the often competing demands of work, home and community,” said Cara Welch, public policy director for WorldatWork. “Dedicating a month to nationally recognize and value this aspect of overall people strategy helps employers increase the productivity, retention and engagement of the talent required for organizational success.”
